We would like to welcome Southern Trinity Health Services to the IRIS-North Coast Referral Network (NCRN) community. On Wednesday Jonah and Katie travelled the winding road to Mad River to meet and train the very welcoming and friendly staff at STHS. They will begin submitting referrals via IRIS today. You can download an updated PCP list from the website under “Resources”. If you are ever on Hwy 36 out to Mad River I would encourage you to stop by the Health Center and visit or ask Cathy for a tour, it was a great experience and they are a very state of the art facility and getting ready to implement NextGen EHR. Good Luck, STHS and thank you for joining NCRN!

Several times I have been asked if there is a secure messaging component capability within IRIS. When I say not at this time, the next question is usually will there soon be a messaging capability built. I would like to know how many of you are seriously interested in this type of service either within IRIS or even as another service outside of the IRIS program, and if you would really use a secure messaging system and in what type of context. This is very important information to get, so we can see if there are enough people interested in this service in the community we can support the time and resources needed to invest in building or purchasing a secure messaging system either within IRIS or separately. Please let me know your thoughts specifically around secure messaging. You can email me kvinson@hdnfmc.com or respond to this post by “commenting” here on the website.

We have been chosen by a group in Seattle, WA called: Group Health Institute to be involved in a case study for our local community referral project: North Coast Referral Network (NCRN)/ IRIS. For me this is very exciting for our little project in Humboldt County to have been recognized nationally and targeted for further study. A few IRIS users will be involved in phone interviews and some in on-site visits when Group Health begins the work of the case study. The value that can be gained by Group Health studying our community project can impact the quality of patient care across the country.

Here is a link to Group Health’s website if you would like to learn more about their institute: http://www.grouphealthresearch.org/

I would like to start a new trial/test process that we can report out on at the next IRIS User’s Group Meeting in May that solicits suggestions and recommendations from IRIS Users that highlights improvements or changes to the IRIS referral system or process that Users would like to see. It could be anything from the time it takes to process referrals at Office X to a new way to handle outstanding referral call backs or ticklers. Please do not limit yourselves with what you would like to suggest or recommend, but do keep in mind what we can actually deliver We will discuss these suggestions and recommendations in more detail at the next User’s Group Meeting and one of you may be the winner of a prize for the best or most innovative suggestion and also we may be able to ensure that one or more of these suggestions can be delivered as new IRIS functionality in the referral process. Your feedback is always appreciated, but now we really want to hear all your thoughts and ideas to hopefully make meaningful changes and improvements to the referral process in our community. To make these suggestions and recommendations you can post to this website or email kvinson@hdnfmc.com.
